The copilot didn’t do what I asked

Name the section, quote exact text, and review compound asks step by step — three habits that fix most copilot misses.

Updated 2026-07-16

01Name the section

The single biggest improvement is telling the copilot where to act. “In the pricing section, change the middle plan to $29” gives it an exact target; “change the price” makes it guess which price you mean.

02Quote the exact text

Explicit text you type is applied verbatim. If you want a headline to say “Handmade in Portland since 2012”, put exactly that in quotes — the copilot will use your words, not a paraphrase of them.

03Compound asks are split into steps

When you ask for several things at once, the copilot breaks the request into steps you can review. If one step went wrong, you can address that step specifically instead of re-asking for everything.

04Undo and rephrase

Every copilot turn has its own undo. Roll back the turn that missed, then rephrase with a named section and quoted text — precision on the second attempt almost always lands.

TipFor a one-word fix, Edit mode can be faster than chat: flip the Edit toggle, click the text in the preview, and type the change directly.
